Not really Steampunk

Hi, and welcome!

Been a busy weekend......my brother-in-law came home from the hospital, Friday night, after being treated for pneumonia and added complications from his Muscular Dystrophy....but my sister was concerned that all was still not right.  He was obviously still very ill, and was struggling to breathe....his heart-rate was more than double what it should have been, and his colour was bad.

To cut a long story short......Roseanne man-handled him,  in his wheelchair, into her van and got him to another hospital, where he was immediately taken into resuscitation.......his legs and feet are infected, and he still has pneumonia.....and it was suspected that his knee was broken.  He has already had that same knee broken by staff at the first hospital, on a previous occasion, when they have tried to move him. An X-ray says there's no break, but there is definitely something wrong with it....they are still trying to find out what.
He's now stable, but Roseanne has been told what to expect, sooner, rather than later.
Needless to say, my baby sister is distraught, even though she already knew what to expect....but there's nothing like hearing it spoken out loud.  She's already witnessed the same thing happen to Kevin's only brother, who was 7 years older than him.  He died of the same thing, when he was 52 years old.  Kevin was 53 yesterday.  His Dad died of the same thing when he was 42 years old.
Roseanne is staying at the hospital, as long as she needs to, and my daughter, Gillian, and I brought Rhys home, and he'll stay with my daughter, Joanne, and go to school with my grandson, Jack.

If you pray, please include Roseanne, Kevin, and Rhys in your prayers....they need them.

Anyway.....now I've depressed us all...ha!......let's get on with the card of the day............

I'm finding that I really like the look of Steampunk........er.....except for the very scantily clad lady images....not my thing at all....but I love all the wheels, cogs, engine bits, Victoriana, etc.,.......so was very pleased to find a freebie from Carmen at http://beyondthefringecrafts.blogspot.com/  ..........she has some really fabulous images (thank you, Carmen!).
It's my eldest son's birthday (Mark) this month, so I used this great image to make him an almost-steampunk card.......I need to practice a bit, to get the look right, but gave it a go, anyway....ha!.....

I do seem to use a lot of K&Co papers, don't I?............I added a piece of blue corrugated card to the centre....everything was inked, and I used those trusty Promarkers, yet again....think I've forgotten how to use other colouring mediums....ha!......

Isn't this digi fantastic? I really enjoyed colouring it, and did actually use some metallic pencils to add a bit of shine and depth to the cogs and wheels, but you can't really see it well, in the piccie.......sigh........

The sentiment is from Craftwork Cards....love their stuff!.....and just plumped it into the centre circle of the three, which were punched out, and inked......done!

Would love to know what you think about my attempt at Steampunk.......and no laughin' allowed....ha!

  1. I see cogs, and hot air balloon are very Victorian - in my humble opinion you have achieved steampunk-ness.
So sorry to hear about your BIL and sister x

Want to say to you - lovely card and what a change of pace for you, not counting the fact it is another male card. About time at your age! Just saying...

Loving your card, you must have a lot of patience colouring all those cogs. Great dimension using the embossing and corrugated card.
